About Mother Clare Watts (January 13, 1954 - April 2, 2017)

Apr 02, 2017

Mother Clare Watts was a founder of The Order of Christ Sophia, which operated the Centers of Light, where she served for 20 years, first as Minister-Deacon, then as an ordained Priest and ultimately for 16 years as a Master Teacher. Raised in Switzerland by Baptist missionaries, she initially rebelled against Christianity and tried her hand at many different spiritual paths, including living in a yoga ashram and training with the Sufis for a number of years before finding the Christian mystical path. In addition, she was a professional certified midwife for 18 years, having pioneering midwifery practices in Kentucky and Massachusetts, and practiced psychotherapy in Boston, Massachusetts after obtaining a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology and post-graduate training in Jungian Analysis. Mother Clare authored two books, Giving Birth to God: A Woman’s Path to Enlightenment and Mystical Roses of Peace, and she led The Order of Christ Sophia as its Director until her death on April 2, 2017. During her life, Mother Clare was known for her laser-sharp clarity and deep compassion. These qualities continue to ring out through her writing and video made from her extensive travels, where she spoke to audiences nationally and internationally. Her spiritual teachings continue to resonate and are appreciated all the more since her passing.
